In a circular economy-based approach, Bemberg is made from cotton linters, an abundant natural resource: its production does not lead to the depletion of forests and agricultural resources. The circularity of the process – from the origin of the raw materials to manufacturing to the product’s end of life – is today corroborated by new certifications for compostability and ecological toxicity. For the brand’s international revival, Asahi Kasei now presents an advanced finishing technique, applicable only to fabrics made with Bemberg: named Velutine Evo, this fibrillation process can be compared to the current premium “peach skin touch” finishes, though it has an improved environmental profile, as its production process uses much less water and energy. The results are supported by a preliminary study conducted by ICEA, in line with the LCA – Life Cycle Assessment methodology.
